We are actively
accepting applications for employment, in fact, we never stop
accepting applications. Finding high caliber individuals to join our
organization is our number one priority. Recruitment and retention
are a full time commitment, from the day a recruit officer reports
to the academy to the day he/she completes field training is usually
no less than nine months. When the hiring process and field training
are factored into this timeline, it takes about a year to hire a new
police officer.
The hiring process to become an officer is an extremely competitive
endeavor that requires our agency to identify the most highly
qualified applicants for employment. An overwhelming number of
qualified applicants will be competing for a limited number of
positions. Our community expects and demands that we employ only
those individuals who possess the highest degree of impeccability in
terms of personal background, judgment, maturity, integrity, and
credibility.
The academy atmosphere is tough, it is extremely physical and the
academic portion is substantial. If you graduate from the academy,
and many do not, you will need to complete at least 12 weeks of
field training. You will be assigned to work with seasoned officer
trainers that will critique every move you make. Many prospective
officers do not complete field training; the constant and relentless
critique process and the stress often lead to a washout or
dismissal.
Once a new officer has completed field training they are placed on a
shift, officers will work 12 hour shifts. Shifts run from 6 am to 6
pm and from 6 pm to 6 am, officers are required to work holidays and
weekends. They are required to report for court on their days off
and complete routine certifications, rain or shine.
This is a tough business, but it is also very rewarding. It won’t be
easy, it will take a long time and it will require you to make
substantial personal sacrifices. Don’t quit, work hard, and be
honest. There are no short cuts; you must complete this process to
become a police officer.
We are actively accepting applications for employment.
